Samuel Alfred Coulton, the son of Doubrey Coulton and Sarah Rainsdon, was born on 28 June 1842 at London, England. He was baptised on 24 July 1842 in the parish of St Pancras, county of Middlesex, England. [1] [2]
Doubrey Coulton and his wife Sarah and their children emigrated to Australia in 1855. They arrived in Sydney on 27 May 1855 on board the ship Constitution. Doubrey's occupation listed as carpenter. Their youngest son, Walter was born during the voyage. [3]
The family settled in the Maitland area of New South Wales, Australia.
Samuel Coulton married Fanny Finney in 1881 at Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. [4]
Samuel A Coulton died on 12 September 1927 at East Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. [5]

OBITUARY
Death of Mr. S. A. Coulton
The death of Mr. S. A. Coulton, builder, which occurred at his residence, Bank-street, East Maitland, has removed an old and highly respected resident of the district. The deceased, who was 85 years of age, was born in London, and arrived in Sydney, with his parents on May 24, 1855, in the sailing ship Constitution. The family settled at East Maitland, where the father became a well-known builder and contractor. The late Mr. Coulton had carried on building operations up till live years ago. Although, he had not enjoyed the best of health for the last 18 months, he was able to get about up to a month before his death. With the exception of about five years in Inverell, where he carried on business as an undertaker, he had lived most of his life in East Maitland. The deceased leaves a widow, and one son, Mr. J. Coulton, of Sydney. There are four grandchildren. He leaves one brother, Mr. Walter Coulton, and two sisters, Mrs. J. Finney (Wickham), and Mrs. H. Baker (East Maitland). Another brother, the late Mr. James Robert Coulton, kept the Toll Bar at Rutherford, and later was in control of the punt at Narrowgut. [7]
