Biography

Birth - Evelyn was born in 1871 when the family was living at "Redbank" west of the Tiaro township. She was the fifth daughter of Thomas Cornwell and Susannah Eaton.

Marriage - She married Malcolm John Harrod, a widower with 2 sons "a well-known identity in the Boompa district" (St.Pierre p.127). He had worked for her grandfather John Eaton at various times, on the "Teebar" property and managing his mining interests around Eidsvold. His Uncle had married her aunt. Malcolm was 20 years older than Evelyn.

After the wedding they lived on a dairy farm near "Neardi" east of Gunalda. Later they moved to Mount Joseph Farm where her sister had settled.

She must have returned as Grace Clara Harrod was born in Maryborough and died 9 years later. Her second child George Boyce Harrod died at 2 years. Her third child Thomas Alfred (known as Fred or Alfred Thomas) out lived her.

Her step-son Stewart was killed in WWI

Her sister, Blanche and her husband Alfred 'Tal' went on a 2 month holiday, leaving Evelyn to caretake the farm. Shortly after they left she discovered she had cancer of the liver. As she deteriorated she was moved to her sister's residence in Bauple - Ethel Maude Smith, a widow. Blanche and Tal returned in June and visited her frequently. She made a Will in late June 1930 and died a month later. Her handwriting was shaky on the Will, but Tal deposed that 'she was in full and complete possession of her mental faculties .. until her death.' There was no mention from the family of her husband visiting, although he was also in Bauple and named as Executor. His name was absent from the death certificate and other documentation.
