Favorite memories of my grandmother include spending time with her in her classroom while she was teaching. Once, she had the class do an exercise where they were to follow instructions, the first of which said to read all the instructions before writing anything. The last instruction was to put pencils down and wait until everyone was finished. I don't remember if anyone followed the instructions correctly but I still remember understanding the point even though I was much younger than her sixth-grade students. PS: I did not do the exercise with the students, probably because I was much younger.
I also remember going with her when she taught Ottawa University (although I think it was Ottawa College at the time) education students about using musical instruments in elementary classrooms. This was close to the end of her teaching career as she had already retired from public school teaching.
