Biography

Leoluca Collura is born 19 May 1861 in his mother's home in via S. Leoluca, Corleone. His birth is reported by the midwife, Francesca Paola De Luca, age 57. Leoluca is the son of Francesca Paola Salemi, age 36, and the late Giuseppe Collura.[1] His godparents are Leoluca Paternostroand Arcangela Birtone, a married couple.[2]

Leoluca marries Maria Grizzaffi on 12 February 1888 in Corleone. His mother is still living.[3][4]

Maria and Leoluca have at least five children: Giuseppe (1890), Teodoro (1896), Giovanna (1898), Francesca Paola (c. 1901), and Maria Concetta (1908).

Giuseppe is born and baptized 26 January 1890, named after his paternal grandfather. is godparents are Giuseppe Spinella and Rosa Marsala, a married couple.[5]

Teodoro is born 18 January 1896 and baptized eight days later, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are his maternal uncle and aunt Francesco and Francesca Paola Grizzaffi, brother and sister.[6]

Giovanna is born 26 January 1898 and baptized four days later. Her godparents are Giuseppe di Nino and Bernarda Pomilla, a married couple.[7]

At least 53 passengers from Corleone sail on the SS Citta’ di Napoli, and arrive 20 October 1902 in Ellis Island. All are going on to the port of New Orleans. Among them is:

9. Leoluca Collura, 41 (b. 1861), married, going to brother in law Giovanni Grizzaffi in Avoca, an island in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana; Giovanni is Leoluca's cousin, and Liborio's brother. The brothers, Giovanni and Liborio, have both returned to Corleone by 1905 when they marry.[9]

Francesca Paola dies 25 February 1905 in Corleone at around age four.[10]

Maria Concetta is born on 20 November 1908 and baptized on 22 November 1908. Her godparents are Calogero Ridulfo and his mother Francesca Pennino.[11]
