Robert was born in Aston, Oxfordshire, England and was baptised on April 24, 1791 in Bampton, Oxfordshire. He is the son of William Collis and Ann Hosier.[1]
He was the husband of Ann and their family were in Fredericton, York, New Brunswick by at least 1836 when their daughter Julia Collis was born.
His wife Ann died sometime after the 1861 Census but before the 1871 Census when he was the head of the household in Fredericton, York County with son Robert and daughter Elizabeth with him as well as his daughter Julia Darlington and her husband and children. Robert's religion was Baptist and his occupation was listed as: Sexton B M H [2]
Many online trees have Robert marrying widow Ann Kelvie in Bampton, Oxfordshire but they omit the fact that she was a widow and use that surname as her maiden name.
Unfortunately, that record was for August 27, 1865 so it's definitely NOT the correct couple. The Robert Collis who did marry Ann Kelvie was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Collis.[3][4]
