Joseph Collins was born about 1718.[1]
He married Lucy (Marchbanks) Prisher/Pritchett[1] and the couple had the following known children:
In 1740 Joseph Collins, over the age of 21, is found living in the same household with John Hurt, Jr., also over 21, in John Barton's list of tithables, above Flatt Creek in Amelia County, Virginia.[2][3][1] He is in the same location in 1741, but is now indicated as living on his own.[4][5][1]
On 27 Oct 1740, Joseph Collins, William Clement and Hezekiah Ford witnessed the will of George Marchbanks in Amelia County, Virginia. Executors named were his wife Ann Marchbanks, William Echols and Richard Echols.[6] On the same day George Marchbanks deeded to Joseph Collins, for 10 pounds, 150 acres on Haw Branch, adjoining Edward Hubbard and William Hurt and Ann, wife of George Marchbanks, relinquished her dower.[7]
On 10 Aug 1742 he appears on the Amelia County, Virginia tithables list in the precinct of William Clements, Constable.[8][9] The Amelia County, Virginia tithables list of 1743 indicates Joseph Collins as living in William Clement's precinct between Flatt Creek and the Appomattox River[10][11] as does the 1744 list.[12][13]
In 1787, "Josiah Collins brought his fathers family to Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky"[14]

Joseph Collins, Joseph Collins, Jr., Jeremiah Collins, Stephen Collins, Elisha Collins and Joel Collins all appear on the 1789 Fayette County, Kentucky tax list.[citation needed] Woodford County, Kentucky was formed from Fayette County in 1789.[citation needed] The 1792 Woodford County, Kentucky Tax List shows: John Collins, Stephen Collins, Joseph Collins and Elisha Collins.[citation needed]
In 1792, deed of Joseph Collins to Travis Guthrey, 440 acres on Spider Creek, Halifax County, Virginia.[citation needed]

On 29 Jan 1794, Lucy Collins of Woodford County, Kentucky, dower release to William Jennings for 727 acres sold in Halifax County, Virginia.[17]
On 30 Nov 1798, deed of Joseph Collins, Sr. of Woodford County, Kentucky to Joel Collins, his son, for love and natural affection, 400 acres in Montgomery County, which was patented to said Joseph Collins, Sr., said land adjoining land now owned by Joel Collins. Witnessed by: William Steele, Samuel Collins, Robert Bowmer and Jeremiah Collins. Rec. Jan. 28, 1799 by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.[18]
Joseph died in Woodford County, Kentucky between 1798 and 1800.[citation needed]
