Biography

Isaac Collins was born February 16,1746 in Centerville, New Castle, Delaware, son of Charles Collins. He printed “ The New Jersey Gazette”, commissioned by the New Jersey State Legislature in 1777 to espouse the Patriot Cause. In 1791, he published a version of the King James Bible that set a standard for more than thirty years. The ‘Isaac Bible’ became a prized edition. Isaac was a Quaker who was expelled from the Society of Friends for his assistance in the Revolutionary cause. He married Rachel Budd on May 8, 1771 in Bank, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had fourteen noted children. Isaac died March 21, 1817 and was buried at Friends Burying Ground, Burlington, Burlington County, New Jersey.
