Leslie Gordon Collins was born in Nhill, Victoria, Australia in 11th June 1917. He was the second son of Walter Philip Collins and Ruby May Love. [1]
On 2nd July 1940 in Dalby, Queensland, together with his brother Harold, Leslie enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force, his nation's overseas expeditionary force for the Second World War. [2] He was a Sapper in the 2/11th Field Company, Australian Engineers and served in Timor, Borneo and New Guinea. [3] He was discharged on 1st February 1946. [2] Harold died as a prisoner of war on Ambon Island, Netherlands East Indies.
Leslie married Marjorie Lavinia Bartlett in Victoria in 1959 [4]
