"A sister of Michael Collins, one of Ireland's greatest patriots, and one of Britain's greatest adversaries, died in England where she had lived for more than 50 years. In fact, she was living in England when her brother was shot during the Irish Civil War which followed the signing of the Treaty. At that time, August, 1922, she came to Ireland for her brother's funeral and visited Ireland only on two other occasions.
The revered lady was Sister Celestine (Helena Collins) who died at the age of 88 at Whitby, Yorkshire. She was born at Woodfield, Clonakilty, Co Cork in 1884. During the past few years she was confined to a wheelchair but remained an extremely cheeful person and a prolific letter writer. At Easter she wrote letters to all her nephews and nieces in Ireland. Sr. Celestine's death came only four months after the death of another sister, Johanna, who died at the age of 92. In addition to having spent her life in Britain Sr. Celestine also chose to be buried there. [2]
