Biography

Rosannah Collins was born in about 1805 in Ireland. Her parents or place of birth are unknown. Her first marriage was to Daniel Hughes. This is only known through their only (surviving) child Mary Anne, who was born c.1826 in Manchester. Rosannah remarried in 1833 to Alexander Campbell. Her life becomes better documented at this point, with an Anglican marriage record surviving of this marriage. Her children were baptized at St Patrick's Livesey Street. They had (Mary) Phoebe (1834-1847), Sarah (1835-1842), Margaret(1837-1851), Jane (1839-1841), John (1841-1842) and Francis (1841-). Their last two sons were twins.

According to the transcriptions of LancashireBMD, the births of the last three children took place in the Ancoats sub-district. Rosannah's maiden name is known only because the baptisms of Sarah and Jane have Collins as her maiden name. Every other birth and baptism lists Hughes as her maiden name. The birth, baptism and census information for the births of these children all agree and do not conflict.

Alexander appears to have died before 1851, and one possible burial entry is that of 1 October 1843 in St Patricks. In 1851 Rosannah was living with Francis and the family of Mary Anne Hughes. By 1861 Mary Anne and her husband Patrick had died, so Rosannah cared from their children, and continued to do so in 1871. Their eldest married in 1876, and the youngest lived with her sister and her family, so in 1881 she was living with Francis.
