Jennie (age 25) married Duke Richmond Manry (age 31; son of William Richmond Manry (1876-1955) and Ruby P. Williams (1872-1944; on July 29, 1935, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[5][6] They had no children.
Marriage Announcement - Collier / Manry |
Jennie spent 3 years during World War II waiting on word and the release of her husband, Duke Richmond Manry, from the Bilibid POW camp. Duke was aboard the USS Canopus as the Chief Storekeeper when the submarine received heavy bombing damage at the Battle of Corregidor, and he had been captured by the Japanese.
Duke Manry Liberated from Bilibid Prison |
Jennie died on September 26, 1997, in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Florida, United States, aged 87.[1][7] She is buried at Bayview Memorial Park, Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida.[8]
Various trees as well as Find A Grave show Jennie's middle name as Marguerita. Marguerita Manry is listed on the 1930 census as being the spouse of Duke Manry in Shreveport, Louisiana. Jennie's middle initial, per other sources, is "M." But, she did not marry Duke until 1935. Plus, the 1935 Florida Census shows her as still being single (see above). It is possible he had been previously married. Until I can find a better source than Find A Grave, which I have personally corrected a variety of errors, I'm not combining Marguerita with Jennie.
