Biography

When Samuel Cole was born on April 2, 1709, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, his father, Ephraim, was 50 and his mother, Rebecca, was 39. He married Mercy Barnes on September 7, 1728, in his hometown. They had three children during their marriage, but only one, Samuel Jr., b. 11 Nov 1731, survived child hood. He married but had no children. Samuel Sr. died as a young father on November 11, 1731, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, at the age of 22, and was buried there.

Note: This was the second Samuel born to Ephraim and Rebecca. The first died young without marrying.

On 31 January 1731/32, his widow Mercy was granted the administration of his estate.[1]

Samuel Cole was a slaveholder. His inventory was taken on 10 April 1732 in Plymouth and lists an "Indian girl" valued at £6 pounds.[2]
