Biography

Joshua was born May 23, 1883 in Baxter's Harbour, Nova Scotia. He was a son of Isaac Cogswell and Sarah Ann (Chipman) Cogswell.[1][2]

In 1904, he was living in Saint John, New Brunswick and was working as a waiter.[1][1]

He married Elva Ray Delong on September 28, 1904 in Saint John. She was a daughter of Moses and Melissa (Unknown) Delong.[1]

After his marriage, he was recorded with several occupations over the next few years based on the birth registrations of his children.

  • In 1906 and 1908, he was a Clerk at the Union Club
  • In 1910, he was Chief Steward of the C.S.S. Stanley

They moved to Boston, where Joshua seems to have found steady employment with the railway as a conductor. They lived the remainder of their years in Boston raising a large family.

Joshua passed away on February 1967 in Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 83.[3]
