Corrections

Gerrit was not married to Meinsje (Meenske) "Mensje" Jans aka van Wicklen, de Vries. His marriage record states that he had not been married previously. This assumption was made due to the badly transcribed records of the Flatbush Dutch Reformed Church. [3][4]

Marriage

as noted below in RDC Flatbush church records: Garret Courten (V Voorhees) 12 April 1685 to Willemptie Peters [5]

Death

23 SEP 1704[6]

Church records

  1. 1685 Apr 26 Gerrit Courten, young man from Amersfort; with Willemtje Pieters, young lady also from Amersfort; both also residing there; married the 26th April at Amersfort. [7] [8]
  2. 1685 Oct 04 Altie; parents: gerrit Coerten, willimtie pietersen; witnesses: pieter Cornelissen, Janneke Jansen. [7]
  3. 1687 Oct 23 marijtie; parents: gerret Coerten, willemke pieters; witnesses: Coert stevensse, maijke gerretse. [Note: the year is given as 1686 at the top of the page. This is probably an error, as the first baptism, dated 29 March, follows a baptism dated 24 March 1687 on the previous page, 441]. [7] (another look at Flatbush church book 72 shows the year marked over to be 1687, they had a mix up on earlier pages.)
  4. 1694 Dec 10 Pieter; parents: Gerrit Coerten, Willemtje Pieters. Wit.: Joost van Brunt, Aaltje Coerten. [9][10]

Land Deed

8 May 1697 Garrett Coerten and his wife Williamke of New Utrecht, deed John Hanse of Flatlands, a house and lot bound by the property of Tunis Janse, John Wyckoff and Claes Wyckoff. Genealogical Gleanings from Book No. 2 of Conveyances, Brooklyn, Kings Co., N.Y. [11]

Van Voorhees-77 and Van Voorhees-121 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. Please ignore the number sequence, and merge into the lower case van Voorhees-121 per the New Netherland Settlers Naming Convention. Thanks!
