John Cobreath was born about 1630 (based on a 1678 deposition):[1]
John Corbreath, "aged 48 or there abouts being sworn before me this 27th day of November 1678 saith that in the year 1658 or 1659 the said deponent carried letters from John Billingsley living then in Cuckahuck in Nansamum County in Virginia unto his mother, Agatha Billingsley, living then in ye city of Rotterdam in Holland".[2]
John Cobreath married Persie (or Perside) Brasseur, daughter of Robert,[3] and is named in his father-in-law's 1665 will:
Will of Robert Brashieur, Sr., dated 4 December 1665, proved 16 December 1665[4]
To Thomas Tovey, Thomas Frost, and Thomas Smith, land on which testator lived.
To Robert Jarvis, Mary Brashieur, personalty.
To John Cobreth, house and land.
Test: John Cobreth, Mark Clear, John Bennett.
Research Notes
John Cobreath is found throughout the reference cited.[4] It appears that he was a lawyer. Records about Elizabeth, widow of Major John Billingsley - who may or may not have been born Cobreath - include the following statement:[1]
"John Cobreath, the attorney of Elisabeth the widow of John Billingsley had been granted administration on his estate William Burgh who married said Elisabeth is granted administration in his place."[5]
