Biography

William was a Friend (Quaker)

William Cloud Jr., was born in 1647/1648, Calne, Wiltshire, England. He was baptised there on 29 Jul 1648. William was baptised on 29 July 1648 in Calne, Wiltshire, England.[1] According to Futhey and Cope's "history of chester county, pennsylvania...1881, this William was living in Caln township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, in 1715 and died there in 1720.[2]

William Cloud Jr., came to Pennsylvania with his father in 1682, on 1 of the 23 ships in William Penn's fleet; the Unicorn;[3][4]Possibly married before coming to America, and some of his children may have been born in England.[5]

He married Grace Willis, 8 mo. 4, 1676, at Blakeland Mill, Wiltshire, England, "both friends of the meeting of Calne" in the home of "John ffryes home", and witnessed by: William Cloud Sr/Susan Cloud/Jane amate or amats/Arthur/John Meate or Neate/Edward Bayley/Joohhn ffrey Senr./John ffrey juner/Robert Card/William Sau,idg./John Williams/margery willis/William Taylor/margery noyes/Sarah Smith/mary fry.[6]

On 4 mo. 1 1686, he purchased of his brother Robert, 200 acres of land lying in Chichester township, and may have lived there awhile, but his name is not found on the tax list of 1693.[5]

He inherited 100 acres of land from his father in 1702; an early settler of Caln towship, as he was a taxable there in 1715. He died there in 1720.[5]

The will of William Cloud Jr., of Caln, cordwainer, made 11 month 19. 1716-17, and proven Dec 16 1720, is recorded at West Chester in Will Book A 1, p. 105. He mentions his wife Grace, his sons, Jason, Joseph, Richard, and William, and his daughters Susanna and Esther. Exec., wife Grace and son Jason.
