Biography

She read English Literature at University and became a University lecturer. She edited a book of Robert Burns poems published in 1913. (copy in the family), no further info as yet.

1911 census: Margaret Smith Cleghorn; aged 30; born Dundee Forfar; single; visitor at 8 Northmoor Road Oxford. She is Tutor of English at Birmingham University.

INTERESTING WEDDING TAKES PLACE IN ALYTH.[1] with mob cap of lace. Mr W. H. Cleghorn, RN., undertook the duties of groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at Airlie Mount, the residence of the brides grandfather, and later the afternoon the happy couple left by motor for a tour in the South, Belhaven Church, Glasgow, and the Rev. James Holburn, South U.F. Church, Alyth, were the officiating clergy, while Mrs Ritchie Smith conducted the choral part of the service.
