Edward was born in April 1898. He was the son of James Clazie and Mary Leeder. His name at birth was "William Edward Clazie" but he later reversed the order of names and was called "Edward William Clazie".
He enlisted in the Canadian army in March, 1916 at Port Elgin, Ontario. Military records showed his birth was in April 1897 rather than 1898, so he seems to have falsified the year in order to enlist when he was just 17. He served in "A" Company, 160th (Bruce) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force and was sent to Europe during the First World War.
He was apparently injured early in his military carrer, before going overseas. The Canadian Great War Project website says, "Private Edward William Clazie was transferred to the Casualties Section, Military District 1, London, Ontario, on October 10th, 1916 prior to the 160th Battalion sailing for Great Britain."
After the war, Edward moved west to Alberta. He married Sadie Marie Nash in 1926 and they had four children. He passed away about 1971, the exact date again not found, and was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Pincher Creek, Alberta.. [1]
