Andrew was born in July 1827 in Ohio, United States of America. He was the son of Josia Clawson and Sarah (McGrath) Clawson.[1][2]
When Andrew was 28 he married Nancy Ellen Jones on 16 December 1855 in Shelby, Ohio, United States.[3] Together, they had nine children:
In the 1860 census Andrew (age 32) was living in Sidney, Shelby, Ohio, United States.
On July 31, 1862, he enlisted in the Union army as part of New Jersey's 15th Infantry Company A. He mustered out on June 21, 1865.

Andrew died at the age of 83 on 19 December 1910 in Shelby County, Ohio, United States of America.
