Thomas was a first lieutenant in Company H of the Infantry Regiment of Hampton’s Legion. He was wounded at Second Manassas and went to Midway Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia on September 7, 1862
Thomas was killed in action just two days after he returned to active duty. He was shot in the head.
