Biography

Ann was born at Scarborough in Yorkshire in 1823, the daughter of tailor Thomas Clark, and his wife, Sarah Molton.

Ann married John Dawson, tanner on the 15th of October 1843 at St Peter, Leeds, giving her address as Newtown and her father as Thomas Clark, tailor. She was unable to sign her name. [1] [2]

By 1861 Ann and John were living at 18 New Cleveland St., Leeds with their six children.[3] John gave up tanning and became a cow keeper and milk dealer, [4] but when he and Ann moved in with their daughter, Mary Ann, and her husband James Moody, he gave himself as tanner. [5] He died in 1896. Ann remained in the Moody household and died on the 2nd of May 1907. She was buried at Beckett St Cemetery on the 5th of May. [6] Her estate valued at £249 4s was probated to her executor, her son, Thomas, on 23rd. [7]
