James was born about 1842 based on the date of death record, was the son of Joseph James Clapson (~1815 - ).
James a musician, married Sophia Stephenson (1836 - 1873) on the 4th September 1860 at St Pauls Church, Newington, London. James and Sophia were living at 1 Grosvenor Park Place, Newington. James' father Joseph James Clapson deceased, had been a sea captain, and Sophia's father Henry Stephenson was an acccountant. The witnesses were James' sister Rose Emma (Clapson) Boosey and Martha Nathan.[1][2]
1861 Census on the 7th April 1861 James a carpenter and upholsterer, was living in Regent Street, Westminster, London with his wife Sophia.[3]
1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 James a carpenter, was living at 56 College Street, Chelsea, London with his wife Sophia, and their children John (7), James (6), Henry (3) and an un-named infant (3 months).[4][5][6][7]
James died aged 45 and his death was registered in the 3rd quarter 1887 in Chelsea, London.[8][9]
