Biography

Jane Clapp, daughter of William Clapp and Johanna Channon Clapp was born in England about 1608 (assuming she was about 20 at her estimated marriage). She married first, George Weeks about 1628 in England. They emigrated to Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1637.[1]

Her brother, Roger Clapp emigrated in 1630 on the Mary & John.[2][1]

George Weeks died in 1650 and Jane married Jonas Humphrey.

Jonas Humphrey died the 9 (1) 1661/2. Jane Humpryes , widdow, d. 2 (6) 1668.[3][4]

Jane died in 1668 in Dorchester, Massachusetts and was buried at Dorchester North Burying Ground. Her Memorial has a brief biography and links to those of both of her husbands and three of her children.[5]

Jane made a will 29 6th mo. 1666. Her will meticulously gives her cloths and household goods to the following: son William's wife (mentioning her sister Sarah Clap); son Amiel's wife; daughter Jane; son Joseph Weekes; grandchild Amiel Weekes; grandchild Ebenezer; grandchild Thanckfull; grandchild Elizabeth, Amiels Daughter; grandchild Jane Weekes; grandchild Renue; sons Amiell and William; grandchild John Weeks; other children of son William; son in law Benjamin Bate; siter Jone Clap; sister Susannah Clap; cousin Hannnah Clap; Mary Atherton. Amiel was named executor. Inventory was taken 20 Oct 1668, Amnt £13. 12. 04. Debts £1. 3. 09[6] This abstract has a note saying that Mr. Weeks died 27 Oct 1659, which has caused some confusion about his date of death.

Research Notes

Estimated Birth Date: FindAGrave as of 2.1.2024 gives a much earlier birth date (1595). Currently the attached children suggest that would be too early, but once those have been reviewed and sourced, a range could be calculated.
