The Chowing Family is related to my former wife. It is through the female line and is proved by the fact that your ancestor was born in Logan County, Kentucky. The connecting lines come through the Dunn and Barham families. Both had early roots in Logan County, Kentucky. I was the family genealogist while my wife and I were married but since our divorce I gave my research to our oldest daughter. I have not thought about the Chowning Family for over 39 years. I can try to help you if you wish.
I'd love to know how the Logan County branch of the Chowning family connects to the family tree. But my direct ancestors were not in Logan County.
Charles Chowning and his son, Robert, who are my direct ancestors migrated from Virginia to Fayette County, KY. Robert subsequently moved to Scott and then Owen county, KY. Walker, Robert's son, and my direct ancestor settled in Scott County which where the rest of the men in my paternal line were born.
I only have one marriage with a Barnham in my tree (an updated tree is on Ancestry), i.e. Julia Ann Barnham to William Isaac Chowning. William is Walker's first cousin. Livina Dunn was Julia's mother. So if this is the Barnham/Dunn connection you are referring to then they are collateral family belonging to my branch of the family tree but I'm not aware of any of them migrating to Logan County, KY. I have them in Illinois and Missouri. As best as I can tell, the Logan County branch runs back through South Carolina. I've traced that line to George Chowning born circa 1750 who migrated to Anson County, SC who is thus far a brick wall for me.

Thanks for your response. Yes, it was Julia Ann Barham, wife of William Isaac Chowning who were our line. Walker Chowning's first cousin. So it is a collateral line at best. I won't know anything about William Isaac Chowning's lineage since it is his wife that we are related to. Appreciated the additional information of your Chownings. Bill Fox
Peggy, do you happen to speak any other languages? Would you check out our languages template and add it to your biography? For example you might add
{{ Languages | en | fr-2 | ga-1 }}
to the top of your biography if you speak English natively, intermediate French and basic Irish, or you could use de-4 to specify near-native German or ru-1 for basic Russian, and so forth up to ten languages.
It really helps to know who speaks all the different languages used on WikiTree! If you only speak English, you're very welcome to use this text to make that clear:
I have completed a Gedcom upload of 7 generations for my surname. I have completed the review of processing errors, merged a few duplicates missed in the initial load and ensured the privacy setting is set to private for all living individuals. Updating biographies and sources is going to be a much longer term activity.
