Arthur was born in 1894. He is the son of John Ching and Emily Lusty. ..[1] After she passed away in 1915, She married James Harris Ching in 1920 [2] He passed away in 1918 age 22 [3]
Arthur Benjamin Ching (Service number 21655) served in the NZ Army during World War 1. He gave his next of kin as Mr John Ching (father), of Spring Grove, Nelson. He mebarked WW1 21 Aug 1916 arriving into Plymouth, Devon on 24 October 1916 aboard HMNZT 62 the vessel was Mokoia. He was a Lance Corporal with the 16th Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company . He was Killed in Action, age 23, serving in the 2nd Battalion of the Canterbury Infantry on 24 August 1918 at Bapaume, France . He is buried at the Beaulencourt British Cemetery, Ligny-Thilloy, Pas-de-Calais, France (ref III. H. 15. ) and memeorialized on the regional War Memorials at Spring Grove, Waimea West and Wakefield
