Joe (Chavasse) Stanley was born in Queensland, Australia

Joseph Pye Chavasse was born in Southport, Queensland, Australia on the 5th August 1905.^[1] He was the son of Francis Chavasse and Lucy Marion Wood.

• Joe had the end of his index finger missing, this was chopped off in a childhood accident by his brother.
• 1925, was employed at Goodwood Plantation in Queensland.
• 1927-29, While working for Lever Brothers Fairymead's copra plantation, he spent two years in the Solomon Islands, with his friend Ollie Bergin.
• 1929 worked as a cane cutter.

Joseph Pye Chew married Ivy Myrtle Steley in Queensland, Australia on the 4th March 1933.^[2][3]

• 1935 was a banana grower.

Joseph Chavasse was known as Joe Chew, but changed his name by deed poll to Stanley, on 17 July 1939, as noted on his original birth certificate.

• He worked for 35 years in Queensland railways retiring in December 1971.
• He was reputed to be an excellent horseman, shooter and bushman in his younger days.

Joseph Stanley (91) passed away at The Friendly Society Private Hospital, on Bingera Street^[4], in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia on the 3rd September 1996, still of sound mind and was buried in Bundaberg Crematorium and Memorial Park^[5].
