Biography

Marguerite Eleda Chauvin was born on January 8, 1876 in Theriot, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States, daughter of Theogene Chauvin (1842–1912) and Louisa Marie Toups (1846–1908).[1]

Eleda (21) married Lenair Jean Naquin (23) (born on October 10, 1873 in Terrebonne; son of Telespore Aristide Naquin and Marguerite Alfrida Theriot) on May 6, 1897 in Iberia, Louisiana. [2]Their children were:

  • Florence (1898–1990)
  • Gilbert (1899–1938)
  • Wilson Joseph (1901–1964)
  • Anthony (1904–1984)
  • Olive Margerite (1908–2000)
  • Leonise (1909–1995)
  • Lester Joseph (1910–1964)
  • Andrew Naquin (1912-1973)

In the 1880 census Eleda (age 4) lived with her father Theogend (age 38), Farmer, her mother Louisa (age 30), Keeping House, her brothers Adam (age 14), Albert (age 9 ), Anatole (age 8), Abel (age 5 mos) and sisters Albertine (age 6), and Elvira (age 2) in Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States.[3]

In the 1900 census Louisa (age 11), lived with her father Theojean (age 58), her mother Louisa (age 55), her brothers Ozieme (age 17), Edward (age 8) and sisters Elvira (age 21), Alfreda (age 18), Lydia (age 12) in Ward Ten, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States.[4]

In the 1920 census Eleda (age 43) and her husband Lenar (age 46)lived with their daughters Florence (age 21), Olive (age 12), Leonisa (age 11), and sons Gilbert (age 19), Wilson (age 17), Antoine (age 15), Lester (age 8), and Andrew (age 7), owned and worked his farm in Theriot, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States.[5]

In the 1930 census Elede (age 54) lived with her husband Lenair (age 56), three sons Wilson (age 28), Lester (age 20), Andre (age 17), and one daughter Leone (age 18), and her husband and sons worked as truck farmers in Police Jury Ward 10, Terrebonne, Louisiana, United States.[6]

Eleda died on March 11, 1930 in Theriot, aged 54. She was buried in Saint Eloi Cemetery, Theriot, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.[1]
