John was born either in 1830 or 1832, the son of Leander Chauvin and Felicity Thibault. His cemetery marker has his birth as 1830, but his death record has 1832 as the birth year. Over time, his last name was Anglicized from Chauvin to Shovar. He married Harriet Michaud at age 24, and passed away in 1907 at 76 years old.

Lived There Seventy-Five Years
Monroe, Mich., April 16 — After a life of 75 years spent in this county, John B. Shovar is dead. His wife, with whom he had lived fifty-four years, survives. Mr. Shovar was one of the most prominent French residents of the county. He was born here. His funeral will be held from St. Mary’s church Thursday morning.[1]

IN MEMORY
John Baptist Shovar was born at Monroe, Monroe County, Michigan He married Harriet Mishow/Micheau on September23, 1853. (The Rec. Comm, Apr. 18, 1907, pg 4 c.2) They were married about 53 years. John was employed at Boyd homestead for 24 years. His steadfastness and faithful execution of duties made him a favorite employee. He was most highly thought of in his neighborhood and the entire city of Monroe where he had many friends. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. John preceded his wife, a son, and three daughters in death. Burial from St. Mary's Catholic Church was on April 18, 1907.[2]
