Biography

"Luis Antonio Charrie" is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 11-Left l'Amitie. He is listed with no reference under the list of IMMIGRES.[1]

Louis Antoine Charrier, son of Louis and Marie Delormo, native of Nior in Poitou, married Mariana Hache, Dec. 1, 1785 in New Orleans, just a few weeks after he debarked from l'Amitie at the Port of New Orleans. Witnesses at the wedding were Josef Martinez and Vincente Llorca. [2] Marie, age 19, was also aboard l'Amitie with her widowed mother Francoise Doucet and 3 younger siblings. They were family #57.[3]

At debarkation in New Orleans, Jean Francois was given the customary 1 axe, shovel, hatchet, knife and 2 hoes. Not all of the immigres were given tools and some were given only 1 hoe.[4]

In 1788, Louis Antoinne Chariee, age 24 is settled along the Right Bank of the Lafourche Bayou with his wife Marie, age 20. They have 6 arpents of land, 25 quarts of corn, and 6 cattle. They have no children.[5]
