Biography

Norman Morris Chapman was a pioneer Australian aviator.

Norman Morris Chapman was born at Albury, NSW, in 1899.[1] He was the son of James Robison Chapman M.L.C., manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Hobart, and Ada Valentine.

In 1926 his brother Geoffrey died when the plane that the brothers were flying crashed near Essendon, Victoria.[2]

Norman married Ella McCormack at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Manly, New South Wales, on the 14th of April, 1928.[3][4] They had two sons: Geoffrey and James.[5]

He died on the 3rd of October, 1934 when the Qantas mail aircraft Atlanta that he was piloting crashed about 16 miles from Winton, Queensland.[6] Two passengers on board also died.[7]

Ella was the daughter of Country Roads Board engineer Major William Thomas Bartholomew McCormack.
