Philip Kenyon Chapman (born 5 March 1935) was the first Australian-born American astronaut. He was the son of Colin Robison Chapman and Phyllis Hume Kenyon.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from University of Sydney in 1956, and in 1958 joined the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition and spent 15 months in Mawson Station, Antarctica. In the 1960s he worked as a staff physicist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In 1967, Chapman was selected by NASA in Astronauts Group 6.[1] He was not assigned to a mission and never flew into space. He resigned from NASA in 1972.
He passed away in Arizona, USA, on 5 Apr 2021, aged 86.[2]
