Joseph Chamberlin was born on September 8, 1777 to Joseph Chamberlin and Ruth Preston.
He settled in 1801, on land bought by Matthew Gibson...where he built a log house, and a few years later, a house which stood a little north of the present one. This, built on the hillside, had a brick basement in front, in which were the living rooms, opening into the cellar behind...The lower rooms were damp and unhealthy. This house, after being long unoccupied, was taken down in 1875.
Joseph worked as a farmer, blacksmith and shoemaker.
He married twice: to Nancy McAllister on Sept. 17, 1801 and to Mrs. Fanny Goss, the sister of his first wife, on February 9, 1841.
Joseph and both of his wives were members of the first church.
He died on November 9, 1845.
