Biography

Edward William Chaillet, II was born on June 14, 1920. He was the son of Edward William Chaillet I (1892-1974) and Lena Rivers (Shelton) Chaillet (1896-1989). He lived with his large family of 4 brothers and 5 sisters at 328 Raleigh Street in the Congress Heights neighborhood of South East Washington, D.C. [1]

Edward enlisted in the U.S. Army on 14 November 1941 in Richmond, Virginia, United States.[2]

He was assigned to Fort Eustis, Virginia on the 25th of November 1941 for basic training. He remained there with Battery "D", 1st Battalion until transfer to the University of Missisippi on November 18, 1942 to attend the Advance Administration School. After successfully completing the course, he was sent to Camp Edwards, Massachusetts on January 12, 1943. He had his last leave in August of 1944 before shipping out to England. In November of 1944 he was at Camp "G" in Newberry, England. Buddy served in Europe for the duration of his active duty.

He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in action against an armed enemy of the United States near Kirchhasel, Germany, on 15 April 1945. Buddy married first Jean (Rextrow) Chaillet on September 12, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Buddy and Jean had two children and lived in Washington, D.C..

In the 1950 census Edward (age 29), Policeman, was the married head of household in Washington, Washington County, District of Columbia, United States.[3]

Ed and Jean divorced around 1960.

He married second Nancy Lee Stinedorf and they raised her two children together. They lived in Oxon Hill, Maryland and Waldorf, Maryland before moving to Hertford, North Carolina in 1996.

Ed was a detective with the Metropolitan Police, Washington, D.C.

Ed passed away on the 18th of November 2002. He is buried at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. BURIED AT: SECTION C B2 ROW 12 SITE 6[4]
