I have never found anything that says what his actual first name was, but several of his records refer to him as J Fleming Cayce. I have not moved all my sources for him, but the Ancestry link in the sources does have some. If you can access Ancestry, you can see them. If not let me know . The tree should be visible as it is public, but if that doesn't work, let me know and I'll invite you to view it, or pass on the sources that you can't see.
One very tenuous tidbit I saw when I looked at Ancestry Hints tree just now, is that there is a tree on Ancestry that does refer to him as John Fleming Cayce. However, there are only 3 sources for him there. One is an "Ancestry Tree used as a source", which I find virtually useless in general, and two marriage records. I would be happy to help if there is anything else I can do.
Thank you for the information. I am on Ancestry, so do have access to whatever is there...which is where I got the information about his name being James, or John. In my early days on Ancestry, I mistakenly thought that the sources were check by Ancestry to makes sure they were correction. HA! Lesson learned, they aren't check. I have deleted some incorrect or questionable source. ... but not quite done.
