Richard Townsend Causton was born in the parish of St Mark, London, in 1843. He was the son of Henry Kent Staple Causton (1801–1881) and Elizabeth Liddell.[1]
In early life, Richard was apprenticed to his father's printing concern (Henry Kent and Son, 4 Laurence Pountney Hill) for seven years from 2nd September 1858. He was admitted to the freedom of the Skinners Company, 26th October 1868,[1] and engaged as a master printer by his father.[2]
As an amateur cyclist on the penny farthing machine (50" wheel), Richard T. Causton won twenty-six trophies during the 1870s.[3] He was captain of the Surrey Bicycle Club.[4][5]
In the late 1890s, Richard moved into Churchill Road, Croydon with Elizabeth Lamport née Miles and her several children.[6] The marriage was formalized in Hampstead on 14th August 1915.[7]
Owing to provisions in his late father's will, Richard continued to work in his father's printing establishment in the capacity of "corrector of the press" and "printer's reader."[6]
On 14th April 1930, Richard Townsend Causton, then resident in Broomhall Road, Sanderstead, died in his eighty-seventh year.[8]
