Frances (sometimes Francis) Causey was born about 1826 in Georgia. Her father was John Causey who was born in North Carolina. She has been reported by researchers as the daughter of John and Martha T. White Causey. It seems likely Martha was a second wife. Martha was about ten years younger than John and would have been about twelve years old when Frances was born (see Research Notes below).
Frances Causey and Paul Sims were married in Chambers County, Alabama, United States on August 14, 1844. They were married by John McKnight. Paul was about twenty-two and Francis was about eighteen.[1]
In the 1850 U. S. Census (October 30, 1850) Paul and Frances (sic) were living in District 19, Chambers County, Alabama, United States. Neither Paul nor Frances could read or write. Paul was farming and had real estate valued at $400. They had three children.[2]
In the 1860 U. S. Census (August 15, 1860) the family of Paul and Frances lived in the Northern Division of Chambers County, Alabama. The post office was Milltown. Paul was farming and had real estate valued at $600 and a personal estate of $300. There were seven children in the household.[3]
In the 1870 U. S. Census (August 20, 2023) the family lived in Beat #4, Chambers County, Alabama, United States. Their post office was at the Chambers County, Court House which was located at LaFayette. The surname is spelled "Semmes". Paul was farming and had real estate valued at $800 and personal estate valued at $400. There were three children born between 1860 and 1870. There were a total of seven children in the family. Neither Paul or Francis could read and write. The only child who could read was fifteen year old James.[4]
Frances had one more daughter, Isabel (Ivie, Eve, Eva, Evie) who was born on June 11,1872 according to her grave marker. Her mother died at the time of her birth or soon after.[5][6].[7]
Death and Burial
She passed away in about July 1872. She was buried at Sims Cemetery in
Lafayette, Chambers County, Alabama, United States.[8]
Research Notes
A lot of research needs to be done about the father of Frances. "John" is a very common name and I have seen Causey spelled a variety of ways, ie. Causy, Cozy or Casey. For that reason I am not creating a profile. This John was shown in the 1850 U. S. Census as born about 1805 in North Carolina. There is a record of a marriage between a John Causey who would have been about seventeen and a Miss Polly Little on 31 October 1822. The Frances in this profile was born about 1826.[9][10](Cushing-1054 23:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC))
No marriage date was found for John and Martha T. White in Jones County, Georgia. According to the birth places listed in the 1850 U. S. Census, the surname is listed as "Cozy" and they continued to live in the state of Georgia and didn't move to Chambers County, Alabama until about 1845.[10](Cushing-1054 23:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC))
