Death dates pre-date cemetery start date because this cemetery contains the graves from various graveyards and burial grounds that were near Kennett, California, and were submerged under Shasta Lake when Shasta Dam was raised. The cemetery technically constitutes two cemeteries, as the Wintu tribe appealed to the federal government for a separate cemetery from the settler re-interment, and the federal government responded by dividing the planned cemetery with a line down the middle and treating it as two.
