Biography

Rosalia Catania is born and baptized 13 May 1805 in Corleone. She is the daughter of Vincenzo Catania and Bernarda Grizzaffi. Her godparents are Luciano and Giovanna Orlando, a married couple.

Rosalia marries at least twice, first to Gaetano Pirricone, son of Nicolo' Pirricone and Bernarda Cascio, on 30 September 1827. Her father has died by this time, and her mother is still living.

Gaetano and Rosalia have at least one child, Bernarda (c. 1830), who shares her first name with both of her grandmothers.

Gaetano dies, reportedly at age 30 (he is 34, based on his age in 1807) on 16 July 1837, at the height of the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe.

Rosalia marries a second time, to Michaele di Miceli, son of the late Teodoro di Miceli and living Antonina di Frisco, on 18 February 1838. Rosalia's parents have both died by this time.^[1]

Rosalia and Michaele have at least one child, Teodoro (c. 1840), named after his paternal grandfather.

Bernarda marries Leoluca Cavallo on 22 April 1855. Her mother is still living.^[2]

Teodoro marries Carmela Mangano on 14 July 1861.^[3]
