Biography

The son of Anson Gardiner Caskey and Frances (Lemmon) Caskey, Gardiner Caskey was born in Caro Township, Michigan [1] in 1886, residing with his family by 1900, in Detroit, Michigan, where his father worked as a prosperous lawyer and shoe and boot merchant.[2]

Gardiner attended the Naval Academy at Annapolis, graduating in 1903.[3] He married Henrietta H. Livingston (1880-1920), the daughter of Augustus Salley Hydrick, MD and Henrietta Livingston, marrying in Orangeburg, South Carolina around 1907.[citation needed] In 1910, the couple lived in Washington, District of Columbia, while Gardiner worked for the United States Navy as a Naval officer.[4]

Gardiner attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Ordnance Bureau of the United States Navy.[5][6] He died of pneumonia at the Naval Garrison Hospital in Berehaven, Ireland at the age of 31; ;his death was recorded in Washington, DC.[7][8] He had been attached to the U.S.S. Oklahoma. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.[9]
