Joseph T. Allen and Sarah Cash were married on June 19, 1864 in Hempstead, Arkansas. He was 20 and she was 18.^[1]

Census

1870 Census. Joe (J. S.) was living at home with his spouse, Sarah, in Greenville Township, Clark, Arkansas. He was 26 and Sarah was 22. Their son, Joe W. Allen, age 4 b. AR and Charles Allen age 1 AR were living with them along with Linda Sheffield age 30 and Susan Sheffield age 11.^[2]

1880 Census. Joe S. Allen was living with his spouse, Sarah Allen, in Garland, Hempstead, Arkansas. He was 37 b. NC and she also 37 b. NC. There were eight children in the house:

1) Josephine M. Allen, daughter age 13 AR

2) Charles Allen, son age 11 AR b. 1869

3) Lue Ella, daughter age 9 b. 1871 AR

4) Lizzie, daughter age 7 b. 1873 AR

5) John, son age 5 b. 1875 AR

6) Ennis, son age 3 b. 1877 AR

7) Samuel, son, age less than one year and

8) George, son, age less than one year (twins).^[3]

1900 Census. Joseph S. Allen was 44 living in Caddo Township (west part excl. Arkadelphia), Clark, Arkansas along with his wife, Sarah R. Allen and two sons. This record shows that Sarah and Joseph were both born in NC. The two sons were as follows:

William age 16 b. in AR; and

Walter L. age 14 b. in AR.

They were living next door to Charles and Dora Allen.^[4]

Ennis, her son, died on Oct 23, 1938 in Graham, Young, Texas. He was married at the time. This record shows his parents were Joe Allen and Sarah Cash Allen.^[5]
