Salvatrice Cascio is born 12 August 1882 and baptized Salvatrix on 16 August, named after her paternal grandmother. The civil record identifies her parents as Francesco Cascio, age 24, borgese, living at 13 via Puccio, and Maria Antonia Gennaro, his wife, an industriosa (manufacturer or trader).[1] Her godparents are Domenico di Miceli and Carmela Triolo.[2]
A margin note stamped on her civil birth record indicates that Salvatrice marries Giuliano Riela on 6 February 1907. (No corresponding note has been made on her baptismal record.)
Maria Antonia dies at age 30 (b. 1860) on 3 May 1890. Salvatrice is seven years old.

Giuliano and Salvatrice have at least two children, Vincenzo (1908) and Francesca (1909).
Vincenzo is born 29 February 1908, a leap year baby, and baptized more than a month later, on 10 April, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Filippo Cassata and Grazia Nuccio, a married couple from San Giuseppe Jato (his father's hometown).[5]
Francesca is born 8 February 1909 and baptized on 20 February, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Mariano and Maria Triolo, brother and sister.[6]
According to the margin note on this record, Vincenzo marries Gaetana Gummino (or possibly "Zummo"), daughter of Vincenzo, in Palermo on 29 January 1934.[5]
