Biagia Cascio was born on 10 June 1862 on via S. Leonardo to Maria Terregrossa, age 21, and Benedetto Cascio, 32, villico (farmer). She is baptized the following day as Blasiam. Her godparents are Giuseppe Rao and Francesca Matritta.
Benedetto dies at age 45 (b. 1829), on 8 May 1874.
Biagia marries Francesco Di Carlo on 10 October 1880. They have at least eight children together, seven girls and a boy: Lucia (1882), Maria (1883), two daughters named Francesca Paola (1886 and 1893), Maria Teresa (1888), two daughters named Giuseppa (1892 and 1893), and Vincenzo (1898).
Lucia is born and baptized Luciam on 23 January 1882, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Luigi Cutropia and Lucia, his unmarried sister.
Maria is born 26 November 1883 and baptized Mariam the next day. Her godparents are Ciro Penzato and Liboria Badolato.
Francesca Paola is born 6 February 1886 at 12 via Pipa, in Corleone, and baptized the following day. Her godparents are Francesco Paolo Mirabile and Giuseppa Saporito, who is unmarried.
Maria Teresa is born and baptized on 21 August 1888. Her godfather is the unmarried Giovanni di Carlo.
Giuseppa is born and baptized on 23 January 1892. Her godparents are Biagia's uncle Giovanni Cascio and his wife Rosa Gennaro. Because her parents have another child in May 1893 with the same name, I must conclude that this child dies in infancy.
Open Issue: According to her reported age at death, the second girl named Francesca Paola is born around March 1893.
The second Giuseppa is born 28 May 1893 and baptized Josepham on 31 May. Her godmother is Maria Guagliardo, unmarried.
The second Francesca Paola dies at seven months of age (b. Feb-Mar 1893) on 25 September 1893.
Vincenzo is born 30 January 1898 and baptized almost a month later, on 24 February. He is the eighth born child, and first born son, named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional. His godparents are Michaele Carollo and Giuseppa Carollo, a married couple from Bagheria.[1]
Lucia marries Leoluca Paternostro on 18 February 1900. Her parents are both still living.
In 1908, Biagia's brother, Francesco, immigrates to Louisiana. The manifest says he is joining Biagia and Francesco there. Their immigration records have not yet been found.
