Antonia Cascio is born 11 July 1861 in Corleone the daughter of Giovanni Cascio, who is age 50 at the time of her birth, a villico (farmer), living in via Sant Agostino, Corleone, and his wife Rosalia la Rosa, age 38. Although her civil birth record gives her father's surname as Cascio, she and all of her siblings are baptized Castro.
A civil birth record giving the above information is in her marriage allegati. However there is another girl named Antonina born to Antonia's parents, in 1864.
Antonia is baptized the day after her birth. Her godparents are Mattheus Governali and Francisca Listi, a married couple.
On 16 May 1880, Antonia marries Giovanni De Bellis, a clerk from Malo, Veneto, Italy. They have at least nine children together in Corleone: Clemenza (1881), Rosalia (1882), Calogero (1885), Rosaria (1888), Giovanni (1891), Julia (1893), Maria Concetta (1896), Leoluchina (1898), and Sebastiane (1899).
Although their marriage records name Giovanni's father as Giuseppe, the sons in the family are named, in birth order, Calogero and Giovanni, with the second sharing a name with Antonia's father as well as his own. Giovanni's first daughter is named for his mother, and the second daughter is named for Antonia's mother. See the Cascio Family Space for a short discussion on naming conventions.
Of the De Bellis children, Clemenza, Rosalia, Calogero, Rosaria, Giovanni, Julia, Maria Concetta, and Leoluchina are known to us from their baptismal records, while Giovanni, and a boy whose name is probably Sebastiane appear on the 1904 ship manifest with Antonia.
In 1904, Antonia, 42, and three of her children---Giovanni, 12; Maria Concetta, 7; and Sebastiane, 5---sail to New York, where they join her husband, Giovanni De Bellis, already living there at 424 E 104 St.
I would like to confirm the births of the three immigrating children, find out when Giovanni immigrates ahead of his wife and children, and whether any of his other children come along with him at that time. Cascio-10 21:43, 25 March 2014 (EDT)
