("Wm J Carter" and "B M Carter" are on the same page of the census, while "George Carter" (age 50-59) is on the next page and could be a relative as he was born in NC too. "Wm P Carter" was a couple of pages away. Erasmus Carter was in Barbour Co., AL.)

(Clarke County, Mississippi was formed in 1833 as a result of the 1830 Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek and the Choctaw Cession of 1833.)

(Sarah is a sister of Thomas Carter.)

(In the 1860 Arkansas Census, Ouachita Co., Missouri Township, page 34, Sarah Carter (says 70, but probably 78) shows up living with James B. Carter and next door to Benj. J. T. Carter.)

Emails from Robert Carter: "In Meridian and Jackson we also found some minutes for Buckatunny Baptist Church, located in Clarke County (the spelling now changed to Buckatunna, the name of a major creek nearby) and discovered that Thomas James, wife, Elizabeth, sister Sarah Carter and two other Carter's joined the church in Jan. 1842 by letter. Those two were Rebecca S. Carter and Elijah M. Carter, perhaps two children of Thomas James. It should be noted that Ebenezer Church at Causeyville and Buckatunny Church over the line in Clarke County were only a matter of 6 or so miles apart (which we didn't know at the time of the trip).

Erasmus L. Carter and wife, Margaret L., were charter members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Benjamin M. Carter and wife were also named as members of Buckatunny Baptist Church. An estate record for the father-in-law of Thomas K. Carter made reference to several of these Carter's. There was a reference elsewhere from Mont Rose Baptist Church records that Thomas K. first joined a Salem Baptist Church in Lauderdale County."

"I feel quite comfortable with Benjamin M. and James B. (being sons of Thomas James Carter) because of being named "Uncles" by William John Carter in a letter to his son."

"We know that Elijah Milburn moved to Texas. Somewhere there is a note that he had a brother that also moved to Texas. From the notation in William John's letter of "Uncle B. M.", I believe Benjamin M. did go to Texas.

Also the profile for Thomas James says he was born in North Carolina. I do not believe William Robert ever lived in North Carolina.

I have a family document written by William Carter with the help of his grandson Fletcher Cowart. William is a son of William Robert and this document says nothing about a brother named Thomas James. I do not believe Thomas James was a son of William Robert.

William Robert had 2 brothers named Thomas and James.
