Biography

Toussaint, the son of Joseph Carrier and Marguerite Tommeraux, was born 12 February 1792 in Boucherville and baptized the following day. The Sainte Famille parish register identifies him as "Toussaint né d'hier, fils de Joseph Carriere et de Marie Chrétien. Le parrain Toussaint Délauriers, la marraine Marie Pilet."[1]

On 14 October 1816, he married Marguerite Caron in L'Acadie. The Sainte Marguerite de Blairfindie parish records state that the marriage was between "Toussain Cariere fils majeur de Joseph Cariere journalier et de Marguerite Saint Sauveur ses pere et mere de cette paroisse d'une part et Marguerite Caron fille mineure de Charles Caron cultivateur et de Josepthe Boneau ses pere et mere de cette paroisse d'autre part ; . . . furent présents Joseph Carier, pere de l'époux, Louis Carier son frère, Jean Baptiste Tetro ami, Charles Caron pere de l'épouse, Joseph et Augustin Caron ses frères, Alexis Morin."[2]

Parish records from L'Acadie and Napierville identify Toussaint as a blacksmith. Those records also identify at least 8 children for the couple, one of whom died as an infant:
