Biography

Marie Wilhelmine Carriere was born about May 1865 in Bas-Canada (Quebec). Her birth record has not been found and her date of birth is only known from her grave memorial and the 1900 U.S. census. [See below] Her parents are unknown.

Wilhelmine Carriere married Joseph Alexis Glaude on December 18, 1881, at Biddfeord, Maine. ^[1] The marriage record has not been found, but it is recorded in the 1957 Labossiere Family tree. He was the third child of eight and the third son of six for Michel Henri Labossiere and Genevieve Desmarais.

Joseph Alexis and Wilhelmine lived the rest of their days in Maine at Biddeford or Saco and they had ten children there between 1885 and 1903. The family consisted of five boys and five girls and included two sets of twins. Sadly, the first child, a daughter and also the second set of twins died young.

[RESEARCH NOTES: No birth records have been found for some of the children, so they are mainly known from the 1900 US census. Mother states she has six children alive, but seven are listed in this census. There is a possibility that some of the names got mixed and there were only six children which agrees with the 1957 Labossiere book. ^[2]]

1900 US Census Maine York Biddeford Ward 2 ED 224 Sheet 11A Lines 28-36: Joseph Gloud, 36 loom fixer cotton mill; Marie (Carriere), 35; seven Glaude children: Wilfred, 13; Edward, 11; twins Charles and Philip, 10; Joseph, 8; Alice 4; Maggie, 3 months. ^[3] Census date: June 7, 1900. Mother reports nine children and three have died. This seems to be correct.

1910 US Census Maine York Biddeford Ward 5 ED 234 Sheet 8A Lines 32-41: Joseph Gloude, 44 mill operator; Mary (Carriere), 44 seven Glaude children, 1 married son with daughter in law: Wilfred, 21; his wife, Alberta (Demeulles), 24; Charles Glaude, 19; Edward, 19; Jovite, 17; Alice, 16; Maggie, 10; Janette, 7. ^[4] Census date: April 18, 1910. Mother reports eight children and three have died; should be ten total; three deaths correct.

1920 US Census Maine York Saco Ward 5 ED 127 Sheet 5A Lines 38-39: Joseph Gtoude (Glaude), 56 loom fixer - cotton mill; Mary (Carriere), 55. No children at home. ^[5] Census date: Jan. 23, 1920.

1930 US Census Maine York Saco Ward 5 ED 44 Sheet 1B Lines 88-90: Joseph Glaude, 65 loom fixer cotton mill; Williamina (Carriere), 67; grandson, Phillip Glaude, 13. ^[6] Census date: April 2, 1930.

Alexis passed away December 05, 1936 at Saco, Maine and he was buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery at Biddeford. He was 73 years old.

1940 US Census Maine York Biddeford Ward 5 ED 16-23 Sheet 5B Lines 54-56: landlady, Blanche Wakefield, 42 head; Wilfred Glaude, 51 widower, lodger, painter wall paper co.; lodger's mother, Wilhomene Glaude (Carriere), 78 widow. ^[7] Census date: April 6, 1940.

Wilhelmine died April 17, 1950 ^[8] in Maine and she was laid to rest with Alexis. She was 84 years old. At least six of their children are in the same cemetery.
