Biography

Elizabeth "Biddie" Florence Carlton's life journey unfolded across multiple states and through various chapters of personal joys and profound loss. Born on April 6, 1888, in Arkansas to Lowery C. Carlton and Eliza Ann (Norris) Carlton, her early years were spent in Murray Township, Newton County, Arkansas, where she grew up and laid the foundations for her future.

Her union with Walter Joel Casey on July 20, 1902, in Newton County, Arkansas, marked the beginning of a shared life filled with aspirations and endeavors. Together, they navigated through different townships and counties, residing in Hudson Township, Newton County, Arkansas, in 1910, and later settling on North Vine Street in Harrison, Boone County, Arkansas, by 1920.

However, tragedy struck when her husband, U.S. Deputy Marshal Walter Joel Casey, met his untimely demise in the line of duty on July 16, 1923, in Harrison, Arkansas, leaving Biddie to navigate life's challenges as a widow.

Her resilience shone through as she embraced a second marriage to Alvin Baker on July 26, 1925, in Carroll County, Arkansas, thereby carving a new path for herself. The ensuing years saw a geographical shift as she relocated to Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri, by 1930, and later settled in Neosho, Newton County, Missouri, by 1940, indicating a journey marked by adaptation and perseverance.

However, life presented yet another loss as her second husband, Alvin Baker, passed away on April 19, 1941, leaving Biddie to navigate another chapter of life's uncertainties alone. Her final days led her to Enoree, Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she breathed her last in March 1966, leaving behind a legacy woven with the threads of resilience, adaptability, and the ability to navigate through the highs and lows that shaped her journey. Elizabeth "Biddie" Florence Carlton's life traversed through multiple states, marriages, and shifting residences, embodying a resilient spirit that persevered through life's trials until the very end.
