David was born in 1832.[1] He was the son of Ezra Carlton and Mary Howland.[2]

He married Phebe Ferris in 1857.[3] She passed away about 1865 before he returned from military service.

He served in Co K, 105th Illinois Infantry during the civil war.[4]

He married Nancy Bigger in 1867.[5] They divorced in 1873.[6]

He married Phebe Frazier in 1887.[7]

He passed away in 1905.[1]
