Biography

Benjamin was born in 1866 in the Bahamas (aka West Indies) to Abraham Carey and Elizabeth Morton.[1] His mother's name was listed as Morgan but was actually Morton on his death certificate.

Benjamin Carey was the second husband of Nona Pauline (Ivey) Morton.[2] In 1910, the family was living in Tarpon Springs, Hillsborough County, Florida, where he worked as a packer in the sponge business.[3]

Benjamin passed away in 1915.[4] He apparently died from electrocution when he walked onto a charged sidewalk with a dangling live wire while walking down a sidewalk with a friend.[5] Burial was in the Cycadia Cemetery in Tarpon Springs, Pinellas County, Florida.[6]
