He passed away between 21 Aug 1558 and 2 Dec 1558 in Dulngnn, Scotland.[3]
There was a suspicion at the privy council, probably shared in by James V himself, that many of the disturbances in the Isles were secretly fomented by the Argyll family, who in due course received the lands forfeited by the other chiefs.
Timeline
1543 - Upon the death of James V, he joined with others to oppose the marriage of Queen Mary and King Edward the 6th of England. [2]
1547 - He served with distinction at the unfortunate Battle of Pinkie [2]
1548 - He also served at the siege of Haddington [2]
1558 - Argyll sent a large fleet to Roag in the Isle of Skye to make a contract of marriage probably of one of his sons and Mary MacLeod. His expedition however was killed after having been entertained by Iain Dubh MacLeod, the usurping chief of the day.
Family
He was married three times.
He married (first) before 26 March 1529 Lady Helen Hamilton, the eldest daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran and Janet Beaton.[3] They had a son:
Argyll married, secondly, Lady Margaret (or Mary) Graham, daughter of William Graham, 3rd Earl of Monteith, and Margaret Moubray, on 21 April 1541 at the Priory of Inchmahome. [2][3][4] They had three children:
Colin - (died 10 September 1584), later 6th Earl of Argyll [2][5]
Janet - who married Hector (or Eachann) Óg MacLean of Duart [2][5] and probably on the latter's death to Tormod MacLeod.
Thirdly he married Katherine MacLean, daughter of Hector Og Maclean of Duart, 13th (or 12th) Clan Chief, on 12 March 1546.[5] The were married in Doward, Herefordshire, England
The following natural (illegitimate) children have been reported:
Mary Campbell - she married Sir James Stewart of Ardmaleish, son of Ninian Stewart of Ardmaleish and Elizabeth Blair.
Agnes Campbell - (born illegitimately to Janet Gordon, daughter of Alexander Gordon, 3rd Earl of Huntly), she married Sir Turlough Luineach O'Neill, in September 1569

Just a note, if you think you have a pre-1700 profile to add (especially American or English) double check it isn't already created...if the person was royalty or Nobility then quadruple check and if not found, confirm the person was or royal or noble birth then add :)...Just trying it be funny a bit because these profiles are watched by many projects and debated in forums on a daily basis. I don't want to discourage anyone from adding profiles nor from questioning a person because there are exceptions...but it saves everyone time and also prevents tree from being messed up for other members.
Under the children, Margaret married James Stewart, son of Elizabeth Blair and Ninian Stewart...I noticed (Mary) in quotations beside Margaret's name so could this be a simple conflate where the Mary didn't exist? Perhaps it just got thrown around on a site like Ancestry and became a question..
Also, do you know why he married Catherine McLean before wife Margaret died? They had three children together so even though he was Protestant, divorce wasn't common yet- I haven't found it yet and was hoping you may know.
Lastly, someone connected a 4th spouse to your profile here and I wasn't sure if you knew since those things don't get sent to us...The bio says correctly there were three marriages but I saw the Unknown and figured I'd throw that in to be helpful (hopefully).
Thanks in advance for any information/ thoughts/ advice!
Cheers!

There appears to be a plethora of internet sites, including Wikipedia, saying that Archibald died at "Dulnynn, Scotland". If as per his bio, his expedition was murdered on the Isle of Skye, there is only one place that I could find, which appears to even come close to the same as Dulnynn, (which does not appear to exist) which is Duirinish peninsular, near Roag, on the Isle of Skye. And then there is Dulnain Bridge, a village in Strathspey, Morayshire. In the interests of accuracy, I have removed the name from his data death field. If somebody does have luck finding this Dulnynn, I am happy to reinstate it.

Campbell-11204 and Campbell-1888 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge as these profiles are for the same person then check for duplicate spouses, parents, children and siblings, etc that must also be merged. Thanks
